SHELL (2008 ~ 2009)
Shell gathers a series of self-portraits that treat the artist’s body as an inanimate object: a still life, a shell encasing emptiness. This body of work is her identity as an Asian woman, refracted through dislocation, separation, and isolation: a lack of connection, paired with disagreement towards the expectations placed on her body. Here, that weight becomes a metaphor, while she continues questioning her own relationship to this form.
